Alveus Premium 110 sink
Ordering and delivery were fine. The guarantee system should have been sent without having to request it. Re:- quality of the product. The draining board is easily scratched and marked; the high polish is probably not the best thing for what is, otherwise, a useful product.
Dear Richard, Many thanks for your review. To prevent scratches on your drainer, you may wish to consider getting a protector mat, there are a number of options available online, from PVC ones to stainless steel roller mats. Also, for the benefit of others, we would just like to add that the Guarantee is published online (www.olif.co.uk/pages/product-guarantee) and your proof of purchase (order confirmation or receipt) will qualify for any claims. Hope that is of some help, Olif team
A unique sink that meets our needs
We wanted a big sit-on sink 600mm wide so that there is no wasted space front and back, with drainer full-width and room for large sinks. We wanted a double sink with two substantial and deep bowls. We wanted a big drainer. And the Alveus is it, indeed the only such sink available, as far as we could find. So many sinks have smaller shallow bowls, or minimal-length drainers. The 1.4m length of the Alveus gives all these things. Sure, you will likely find it more of a challenge to fit than a sink that is just dropped into a cutout hole in a worktop. And if you are fitting 40mm worktops to **** up against it, you'll need 9 or 10mm spacers under all the sink. And you'll need to cut your own tap hole - a 35mm QMax cutter does this easily. And as with any stainless steel sink, never put a single-pillar tap into the hole without a very substantial strengthening plate underneath, or the tap will wobble and flex the sink horribly as soon as you touch it. I have seen them. We made up our own big custom steel plate to fit the gap underneath, and it completely prevents flexing. You could use thick plywood too. As the drainer does not have drainage grooves, and being so long has a gentle slope, you may get a bit of pooling, but this is not really a problem. In any case, we use two roll-up drainers which are stainless steel tubes connected by white flexible silicone rubber along the edges. They allow all items to drain completely and dry on any sink, and you can pull one of them over the second basin to extend the drainer area even more. A well-known online supplier keeps them in its marketplace at a very reasonable price. We didn't use base units with cut-out backs, as none were available for the sizes we needed. So we just cut out out the back where the pipe connections were needed, and devised ways to screw into the sink backing wood from the full-height units. So, a great and unique sink giving you lots of space.
Dear Tony, many thanks for the extensive and very informative review, which should be very helpful to many readers. We just wanted to add that we actually supply a special tap-to-worktop bracket that helps stabilizing the mixer taps https://www.olif.co.uk/products/alveus-allfix-a-tap-to-worktop-brace?variant=39093440650 Best wishes, Olif team
